visiting artist… April 2, 2007
I wasn’t able to make it to the presentation of the visiting artist a few weeks ago, but i was able to examine the website to see some work. I liked how interactive the website was and how you could click on the text to take the viewer to another page. The text was very interesting in the fact that it was somewhat comical. I also found the front page easy to toggle through and i liked that you could click on the dates to find the works. Overall i think that their artwork is very subjective, some way say that because most of their work is text, it’s not technically artwork, but i would disagree in the fact that the text they use is difinantly artwork. The way that it is created and executed makes it subjective but very artistic and creative. Overall, i have learned a lot more about the digital world from viewing this site, it was very informative.
Visiting Artist Response… February 9, 2007
I wasn’t able to go to the visiting artist lecture because i already had a meeting schuduled but i was able to look at this interview online. I think that the idea of a sound artist is a newer concept and it is going to be intresting years down the road to see how far it goes as an art form. When the interview talked about how Stephen puts sound to motion, it reminded me of the christmas lights you see with music put to them to make them ‘dance’. I think that it is vital for anyone in the art industry to be familiar with the roots of their specific medium. For Stephen, he has gone back to research the pioneers of his day. From this, i feel like he is able to make better informed decsions regarding his own creations. I think that Stephen is a great example of a working artist. In his work especially he has to re-work certian things and have a lot of trial and error sessions to find something that will work. This is good to keep in mind as an aspiring artist! I really enjoyed his information about getting a grant to study Virginia, it really shows that you can get paided for what you love to do! And he gets to travel and make art at the same time! All of Stephen’s installations were very rich in color and deep in meaning. I enjoyed this interview and i’m intriged to find out more about this artist!
Class quilt… February 5, 2007
This is my quilt piece! The class theme that we chose was: manatees and the 7 deadly sins, it was a little crazy making my quilt piece, but i learned a lot and i’m happy with the outcome!
